We welcome you to the 5th European Seminar in Virology (EuSeV). These are short meetings, organized by the European Society for Virology (ESV) (http://www.eusv.eu), dedicated to dissect one topic - or two related topics.

The basic idea is to gather expert personalities on the selected topic from Europe, and occasionally from US, and to bring young students and post-docs in contact with the leaders in the field. The meeting lasts a weekend (from Friday noon to Sunday noon), and is held in Italy, in a facility from the University of Bologna. The facility includes a renovated fortress with the auditorium, and nearby buildings, where attendees are hosted. All meals are taken together, to further foster informal contacts and the discussion. Previous years’ seminars focused on Innate and adaptive immune responses (2013), on Vaccines and Antivirals (2014), (re)emerging viruses (2015), Oncogenic and Oncolytic viruses (2016)

This year, we have put together an exciting program, including both well-known and emerging viruses with an emphasis on Zika virus, with eminent state-of-the art keynote speakers.

The topics cover:

  • The biology of viruses
  • Pathogenesis and host response
  • Transmission
  • Zoonosis
  • Epidemiology & Surveillance
  • Vaccines and Antivirals

The meeting will take place on June 16-18, 2017, at the Centro Residenziale Universitario di Bertinoro, Italy (http://www.ceub.it/), a facility located at 60 Km east of Bologna, Italy. Transportation from and to the Bologna airport in the arrival and departure days are provided by the meeting organization.
